Policies

This page explains how Bronva operates, what information is processed when you use the service, why certain operational information is recorded, how browser storage is used, and the terms that apply to your use of Bronva.

Bronva is an independently created web application developed by James William Steven Parker. It is designed to provide a simple way to ask questions and find relevant information from a growing collection of pre-generated response pages.

Bronva does not require you to create an account or maintain a conventional user profile in order to use its core question-and-answer functionality.

These policies are intended to describe the way the live service operates. They may be updated when Bronva's functionality, infrastructure, legal requirements or data processing arrangements change.

Nothing on this page is intended to remove or restrict a statutory right or legal protection that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.

1. About Bronva

Bronva is a lightweight, browser-based question-and-answer website. Its purpose is to help users find useful information without requiring an account or a conventional AI conversation.

Bronva's responses are prepared and published in advance as individual HTML pages. When a user submits a question, Bronva's JavaScript matching system compares the wording of that question with the published question index and attempts to identify the most relevant response.

Bronva therefore does not operate as a general-purpose generative AI system that creates a new answer from scratch for every question.

If the matching system cannot identify a sufficiently confident result, Bronva may show its no-answer page rather than presenting an uncertain response as though it were a match.

2. Operator and contact information

Bronva is independently created and developed by:

  • Operator: James William Steven Parker
  • Trading name: Bronva
  • Website: https://bronva.com/
  • Email: support@bronva.com
  • Postal address: 30 Saint Mary's Park Road, Portishead, Bristol, BS20 6SL, England, United Kingdom

3. Terms of Use

By accessing or using Bronva, you agree to use the website lawfully and responsibly and to comply with these Terms of Use.

These terms apply to the public Bronva website, including its question interface, response pages, navigation, sharing functionality and other publicly available features, unless separate terms expressly apply to a particular service.

3.1 Acceptable use

You may use Bronva for lawful personal, educational, research, informational and other legitimate purposes.

You may read, bookmark and share publicly accessible Bronva pages provided that your use does not misrepresent their source, infringe applicable rights or interfere with the operation of the website.

3.2 Prohibited conduct

You must not use Bronva to:

  • break the law or facilitate unlawful activity;
  • attack, disrupt, damage or interfere with the website or its infrastructure;
  • attempt to obtain unauthorised access to systems, data or administrative functionality;
  • introduce malware, malicious code or harmful material;
  • circumvent security controls or technical restrictions;
  • deliberately overload the service or impose unreasonable automated traffic;
  • misrepresent your identity or relationship with Bronva;
  • suggest that Bronva has endorsed, sponsored or authorised something when it has not;
  • infringe intellectual property, privacy or other rights; or
  • otherwise misuse the website in a manner that could reasonably harm the service, its users or another person.

3.3 Automated access

Bronva is part of the public web and publicly accessible pages may be discovered, linked to or indexed by search engines and other ordinary web infrastructure.

Automated activity that is excessive, abusive, disruptive, security-sensitive or otherwise places an unreasonable burden on Bronva may be restricted or blocked.

Nothing in these terms prevents activity that is otherwise permitted by applicable law.

4. How Bronva answers questions

Bronva uses a published collection of questions and pre-generated response pages.

When you submit a question, the wording is normalised and compared with the available question index. The matching process can consider meaningful words, phrases, word overlap, word order, question type and other textual similarities.

The strongest available match is not necessarily the question the user intended. Bronva therefore uses a confidence threshold rather than assuming that every submission has a valid answer.

Where a sufficiently confident match is found, the browser is directed to the corresponding pre-generated response page. Where no sufficiently confident match is found, Bronva may instead display its no-answer page.

5. Operational logging

Bronva records certain information about questions submitted to the service. This is an operational logging system used to help develop, maintain, secure and improve Bronva.

The purpose is not to build advertising profiles or to require users to create an account. The logging exists because Bronva is an actively developed service and the operator needs practical information about how the service is being used and where it needs improvement.

5.1 What is logged

When a question is submitted through the Bronva question interface, the operational log can contain the following information:

  • the question submitted;
  • the IP address associated with the request;
  • the browser user-agent information;
  • the browser language;
  • the browser's preferred language list;
  • the reported timezone;
  • the user's colour-scheme preference, such as Light or Dark;
  • the device screen dimensions;
  • the browser viewport dimensions;
  • the device pixel ratio;
  • the HTTP referrer, where available;
  • the page from which the request was made;
  • the destination response selected by Bronva; and
  • the date and time at which the question was logged.

The destination is recorded as the filename of the response page selected for the question. For example, an entry may show that a question was matched to what-is-dns.html or, where no suitable pre-generated response was found, no-answer.html.

5.2 Why questions are logged

Operational logging helps the operator understand how Bronva is performing in real-world use.

In particular, the information can be used to:

  • identify questions that Bronva receives frequently;
  • identify questions for which Bronva has no suitable response;
  • identify missing or incomplete areas of the response library;
  • improve the question-matching system;
  • identify cases where wording is not being matched as intended;
  • identify broken, incorrect or unexpected response destinations;
  • diagnose technical problems affecting the question interface;
  • understand which parts of the service are being used;
  • monitor unusual or potentially abusive activity;
  • investigate security or operational incidents;
  • identify compatibility problems involving browsers or devices; and
  • guide future development and maintenance of Bronva.

For example, if many users ask a particular question and Bronva repeatedly sends those users to its no-answer page, that provides a useful indication that the response library may need a new article or that the matching rules need improvement.

Similarly, browser and device information can help identify problems that occur only with particular browser configurations, screen sizes or other technical environments.

5.3 Logging is part of service improvement

Bronva is not a static collection of pages. Its response library, matching system and interface are developed over time.

Operational logs provide feedback about actual use that cannot be obtained reliably by looking only at the source code or pre-published question list.

For that reason, question logging is an important part of maintaining the quality and usefulness of the service.

5.4 Operational logs are not an account profile

Bronva does not require an account and does not use the operational logging system as a conventional user profile or account-history system.

The logs are maintained as operational records for the purposes described above. They are not presented to users as a personal Bronva account or public profile.

5.5 Please do not submit unnecessary sensitive information

Although questions are logged for operational purposes, Bronva does not need passwords, authentication credentials, payment card details, confidential business information or other highly sensitive information in order to answer ordinary questions.

You should therefore avoid entering information into a question that you would not want recorded as part of the service's operational logs.

This is particularly important for information belonging to another person or organisation.

5.6 Operational logging and security

Some of the information recorded through operational logging can also help investigate abuse, malicious activity, technical attacks, service disruption and other security issues.

For example, IP addresses, timestamps, browser information and request-related information can help establish what happened during a technical or security incident.

Access to operational information is therefore treated as technical and administrative information rather than general public content.

6. Privacy and personal information

Privacy matters are considered in the design and operation of Bronva. The service is deliberately designed so that its core functionality can be used without creating an account or maintaining a conventional personal profile.

However, the absence of an account does not mean that no information can ever constitute personal data.

For example, an IP address may constitute personal data under applicable data protection law. Operational logging is therefore treated accordingly where relevant law applies.

6.1 Questions submitted to Bronva

Questions entered into the main Bronva interface are used by the browser-side matching system to determine which published response is most relevant.

For operational purposes, the submitted question is also sent to Bronva's logging endpoint so that the service can record and analyse usage as described in section 5.

This means that a question submitted to Bronva should not be assumed to be completely private or confidential.

6.2 Purposes for processing information

Where personal data is processed, purposes can include:

  • operating and maintaining Bronva;
  • providing requested website functionality;
  • improving the response library and matching system;
  • identifying missing responses;
  • diagnosing technical problems;
  • maintaining website security;
  • detecting and preventing abuse;
  • investigating incidents;
  • responding to communications and complaints;
  • complying with legal obligations; and
  • protecting legitimate rights and interests.

6.3 Lawful basis

Where UK data protection law applies, personal data will be processed only where an applicable lawful basis exists.

Depending on the circumstances and the particular processing involved, a lawful basis may include legitimate interests, compliance with a legal obligation, performance of a contract or consent.

Where legitimate interests are relied upon, the relevant interest will be considered against the individual's rights and freedoms and the processing will be limited to what is reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.

7. Information received by the server

When a browser communicates with a web server, technical information may necessarily be available to the server or its hosting infrastructure.

Depending on the request and infrastructure involved, this can include information such as an IP address, user-agent information, requested resource, date and time, referring information, response status and security-related information.

This type of technical information can be necessary for delivering web pages, maintaining security, diagnosing problems and operating the underlying infrastructure.

8. Data sharing

Personal data may be processed by service providers where necessary to operate Bronva.

Depending on the infrastructure actually used, these providers may include hosting, server, networking, security, communications, technical support, analytics, advertising or other technology providers.

Information may also be disclosed where required or permitted by law, including to courts, regulators, law-enforcement authorities, professional advisers or other relevant parties where legally appropriate.

Bronva does not sell personal data as a standalone commodity.

9. Data retention

Operational logs and other information are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which they are maintained, subject to applicable legal, security and operational requirements.

Different categories of information may have different retention periods. For example, operational logs may be retained for a period that allows recurring technical problems, abuse patterns or service issues to be identified.

The actual retention period may also depend on the configuration of the server, hosting environment, backups and other infrastructure used to operate Bronva.

10. Security

Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect information against unauthorised access, accidental loss, destruction, alteration or disclosure, taking account of the nature of the information and the risks involved.

Operational log files are technical records and are not intended to be publicly accessible through the Bronva website.

No website, server, browser, network or storage system can guarantee absolute security. Users should therefore avoid submitting confidential information that is unnecessary for using Bronva.

11. Your data protection rights

Subject to applicable law and relevant exemptions, you may have rights relating to personal data processed about you. These can include:

  • the right to be informed;
  • the right of access;
  • the right to rectification;
  • the right to erasure in appropriate circumstances;
  • the right to restriction of processing in appropriate circumstances;
  • the right to object to certain processing;
  • rights concerning data portability where applicable; and
  • rights concerning certain automated decision-making and profiling where applicable.

These rights are subject to conditions, exemptions and limitations established by applicable data protection law.

11.1 Making a privacy request

If you wish to exercise a data protection right or ask a question about how Bronva handles personal information, contact the operator using the details in section 24.

To protect individuals and prevent unauthorised disclosure, the operator may need sufficient information to verify the identity of the person making a request.

11.2 Complaints

If you are concerned about the way Bronva handles personal data, you are encouraged to contact the operator first so that the matter can be investigated and, where appropriate, resolved.

You also have the right to complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) where you believe applicable data protection requirements have not been met.

The ICO can be contacted through its website: ico.org.uk.

12. Browser storage

Bronva uses browser storage for certain local preferences and navigation functionality.

Depending on the features you use, this can include:

  • theme and appearance preferences;
  • accent colour preferences;
  • font-size preferences;
  • response display preferences;
  • typing animation and speed preferences;
  • follow-up question preferences;
  • sidebar state; and
  • question-and-answer navigation history for the current browser session.

This information is stored by your browser rather than being presented as an online Bronva account profile.

Browser storage can be cleared or restricted through your browser's settings. Doing so may remove Bronva preferences or navigation information stored on your device.

13. Cookies and similar technologies

Bronva's core question-matching functionality does not require a conventional cookie-based account system.

The current application uses browser storage for certain local preferences and session navigation functionality.

Browser storage such as localStorage and sessionStorage is technically different from a traditional HTTP cookie, although both can store information on a user's device.

Bronva may use cookies or similar technologies in the future if additional services are introduced, including analytics, advertising, affiliate tracking, embedded content, security or other functionality.

Where applicable law requires consent for a particular technology, the appropriate consent mechanism will be used before that technology is deployed for the relevant purpose, unless a lawful exception applies.

14. Children's privacy

Bronva is a general-purpose information website. It does not require users to create accounts or provide personal information simply to use the core question-and-answer functionality.

The website is not designed as a service for collecting personal profiles from children.

Users should not submit passwords, private communications, financial information, contact details or other unnecessary sensitive information through a public question interface.

15. Information provided by Bronva

Bronva is an information resource. Its responses are intended to help users understand subjects and find useful general information.

Bronva's content should not automatically be treated as professional, expert or personalised advice.

Depending on the subject, this includes medical, legal, financial, tax, accounting, insurance, investment, cybersecurity, technical, engineering, safety and other specialist matters.

Where a decision could have significant consequences, appropriate authoritative or professional sources should be consulted before action is taken.

16. Accuracy, completeness and currency

Bronva aims to publish useful and carefully prepared information. However, the website cannot guarantee that every response is accurate, complete, current or suitable for every purpose.

Information can change. Laws and regulations may be amended, products and services may change, organisations may alter their policies, technical standards may develop and factual circumstances may become outdated.

A response may therefore remain published after information about its subject has changed.

Where accuracy or currency matters, users should verify important information against an appropriate primary, official or professional source.

17. No guarantee of a particular answer

Bronva does not promise that every question submitted will produce a response.

Because Bronva matches questions against a finite published question index, questions outside the scope of that index may not have a suitable response.

Different wording can also produce different results even where two questions have similar meanings.

The no-answer mechanism is an intentional part of the service and is preferable to presenting an insufficiently confident match as though it were certain.

18. Availability and changes

Bronva is provided on an ongoing basis, but uninterrupted availability is not guaranteed.

The website may become temporarily unavailable because of maintenance, hosting problems, technical faults, network failures, security measures, software changes or circumstances outside the operator's reasonable control.

The operator may add, remove, revise, reorganise or replace questions, responses, features, interface elements and other parts of Bronva as the project develops.

19. Intellectual property

Unless expressly stated otherwise, the original Bronva website, including its code, interface, design, branding, structure, graphics, original written material and original response content, is owned by or used under appropriate rights by James William Steven Parker.

Copyright and other intellectual property rights are reserved except where applicable law provides otherwise or permission has been expressly granted.

You may access and use publicly available Bronva pages for ordinary lawful purposes. You must not reproduce or redistribute substantial portions of Bronva's original material in a manner that competes with the service, creates a substitute database, commercially exploits the content or otherwise infringes applicable rights.

Nothing in these terms prevents uses of copyright material that are permitted by law.

20. Bronva name and branding

The Bronva name, branding, visual identity and associated original design elements must not be used in a manner that falsely suggests ownership, sponsorship, endorsement, authorisation or affiliation.

References to Bronva for purposes such as commentary, review, criticism, news reporting or ordinary linking are not prohibited merely because they identify the service.

21. Third-party material and external websites

Bronva may refer to third-party organisations, products, services, technologies, publications, websites, trademarks or other material.

Third-party intellectual property remains the property of its respective owner unless expressly stated otherwise.

A reference to a third party does not by itself mean that the third party has approved, endorsed, sponsored or is affiliated with Bronva.

Bronva may also link to external websites or services. External websites are controlled by their respective operators. Bronva is not responsible for their content, availability, security, privacy practices, terms, transactions or subsequent changes.

22. Advertising, sponsorship and affiliate relationships

Bronva may, now or in the future, generate revenue through advertising, affiliate relationships, sponsorships, donations, commercial partnerships or other legitimate revenue sources.

Where a commercial relationship could reasonably affect how content or recommendations should be understood, Bronva will seek to make the relevant relationship clear where required by applicable law or advertising standards.

The existence of an advertising or affiliate relationship does not, by itself, constitute a guarantee or endorsement of the relevant third party, product or service.

23. Communications and enquiries

If you contact Bronva by email or another available communication method, information contained in your communication may be processed in order to respond to you and deal with the matter raised.

Depending on the nature of the communication, this may include dealing with a privacy request, accessibility issue, copyright concern, complaint, security report, technical problem or legal enquiry.

Please provide only information that is reasonably necessary to deal with your enquiry.

24. Contact, complaints and privacy enquiries

Questions, complaints, privacy enquiries and legal enquiries concerning Bronva should be directed to:

  • Bronva
  • Operator: James William Steven Parker
  • Email: support@bronva.com
  • Postal address: 30 Saint Mary's Park Road, Portishead, Bristol, BS20 6SL, England, United Kingdom

Where your enquiry concerns a particular page or item of content, please identify the relevant URL and explain the nature of the issue as clearly as possible.

If your enquiry concerns personal information or operational logging, please identify that in your message so that it can be handled appropriately.

For data protection concerns, you may also contact the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) where applicable.

ICO information is available at ico.org.uk.

25. Accessibility

Bronva aims to provide a clear, usable and accessible experience across modern browsers and devices.

Accessibility can nevertheless be affected by browser versions, operating systems, assistive technologies, device configurations, third-party software and other factors outside the operator's control.

If you encounter an accessibility problem, please contact the operator and describe the issue, including the page involved and, where useful, the device or browser being used.

26. Security and technical protection

Bronva uses technical measures intended to protect the website and its functionality against misuse and unauthorised interference.

Some functionality necessarily runs in the user's browser. Anything delivered to a browser can potentially be inspected by the person operating that browser.

Client-side protection can therefore only ever be a best-effort measure.

The existence of security measures does not constitute a guarantee that Bronva will never experience malicious activity, vulnerabilities, unauthorised access, service interruption or other security incidents.

27. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bronva is provided on an "as available" basis. The operator does not guarantee that the website will always be available, uninterrupted, error-free, secure, complete, accurate or current.

The operator does not guarantee that any particular question will receive a response or that a matched response will satisfy the user's intended purpose.

Information provided through Bronva is general information and should not be relied upon as a substitute for appropriate professional or authoritative advice.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator is not responsible for losses that are not reasonably foreseeable arising from use of, or inability to use, Bronva.

Nothing in these policies excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Nothing in these policies limits or removes a consumer right or remedy that cannot lawfully be limited or removed.

28. Consumer rights

If you use Bronva as a consumer, applicable consumer protection law continues to apply to you.

Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude or restrict mandatory consumer rights or remedies.

29. User responsibility

You are responsible for deciding whether information obtained through Bronva is appropriate for your particular circumstances.

You should independently verify information before relying on it where an error, omission or outdated statement could cause material harm, financial loss, legal consequences, health consequences or a safety risk.

You are also responsible for using Bronva in compliance with applicable law and for avoiding the submission of information that should not be entered into a public web interface.

30. Suspension and restriction of access

The operator may restrict or block access to Bronva where reasonably necessary to protect the website, its infrastructure, users, third parties or legal rights.

This may include responding to abusive traffic, malicious activity, security threats, automated activity that places an unreasonable burden on the service or conduct that violates these policies.

31. Changes to these policies

Bronva may update these policies from time to time.

Updates may be required when Bronva changes its functionality, introduces or removes third-party services, changes how information is processed, changes its commercial arrangements or responds to developments in applicable law or regulatory guidance.

When this page is materially changed, the updated version will be published here and the date below will be amended.

You should check this page periodically if you continue to use Bronva.

32. Severability

If any provision of these policies is found to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, it will apply to the maximum extent permitted by law or be modified or removed only to the extent necessary.

The remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.

33. No waiver

If the operator does not immediately enforce a right or provision contained in these policies, that does not mean that the right or provision has been permanently waived.

34. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms and the use of Bronva are governed by the laws of England and Wales, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

Where you are a consumer, nothing in these terms is intended to remove any mandatory legal protection or jurisdictional right available to you under applicable law.

35. Third-party services and live configuration

The privacy, browser-storage, cookie, advertising and security provisions on this page describe Bronva's intended operation and must be read together with the services actually deployed on the live website.

If Bronva introduces analytics, advertising networks, affiliate tracking, embedded third-party content, mailing services, payment providers, account systems or other third-party technology, the relevant privacy and legal information will be reviewed and updated as appropriate.

Bronva should not represent a third-party provider as being used where that provider is not actually deployed on the live website.

36. Important information about this page

This page is intended to provide a clear description of Bronva's current operation, policies and terms.

It should not be interpreted as a promise that Bronva will never change, or as a guarantee that every possible legal or technical circumstance has been described.

Where applicable law imposes a requirement that conflicts with a provision on this page, the applicable law takes precedence to the extent required.
